Jeffers (Year 2)
Welcome to Jeffers Class Term 4
This term we'll be writing instructions which link to our DT project to build a bridge. We'll also write a narrative based on the story 'The Building Boy' by Ross Montgomery and David Litchfield. We'll be complementing last term's learning on Van Gogh and Paul Cezanne through a short still life piece. Our Geography focus in term 4 revolves around the question 'Why is our world so wonderful?'. We'll be looking at important landmarks in the UK, exploring the local area and learning about the world's oceans. We'll also do some fieldwork in our forest school area. In music lessons we'll listen to the composer Wojciech Kilar's work Orawa (river) as well as working on pieces of music inspired by transport. Children will become composers themselves! As always, we will be doing lots of reading, as a whole class we will be reading 'The Building Boy ' as well as some short SATS style texts. Phased group reading sessions will continue to be 4 times a week and children will have time for reading for pleasure several times a week alongside this - every week has a different reading theme, I wonder how quickly children can guess what the theme is? Like last term, we will be going to the library every Friday, please make sure children bring books back so they can change them.
PE
This term we will still have PE on Mondays and Wednesday this term. The Monday sessions will normally be inside for our dance unit. Please ensure children come in correct PE uniform on these days:
- Plain black / navy shorts, plain white t-shirt or white t-shirt with school logo
- Trainers for outdoor PE
- Plain black / navy joggers and a plain black / navy sweatshirt or ‘hoodie’ or a normal blue school jumper.
Please do not wear different colours or clothes with other logos.
Have a look at the curriculum map for Term 4 and knowledge organisers attached for more detailed information about our learning and to help you talk about this learning together. As always, come and speak to me at the door if you have any questions or comments, I'm always happy to chat.
I will set home learning on Fridays to be submitted via Google Classroom on Wednesdays. You can upload pictures of work, send a short comment or bring in paper work to show me. Home learning is a way for adults at home to be actively involved with the children's learning. I hope the tasks encourage fun learning together and rich conversations to deepen learning and engagement.
I am always happy to have a chat at the door or to arrange a time when needed, please don't hesitate to talk to me at drop off or pick up.
Mrs Akin.
