Safeguarding

Frogwell Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children.

The staff and governors at Frogwell Primary School are committed to safeguarding children. We have a legal duty to ensure that no child in our care is at risk or at harm, at any time, including the time when they are at school. All staff and volunteers are responsible for being alert to the signs of neglect and abuse and for reporting them to the Safeguarding Team.

THE SAFEGUARDING TEAM AT FROGWELL PRIMARY SCHOOL:

  • Rachel Neville (Designated Safeguarding Lead / Headteacher / Designated Teacher for Looked After Children )
  • Jasmine Kennedy (Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead)

The Nominated Governor for Child Protection is Alison Burge.

WHAT IS 'SAFEGUARDING'?

Safeguarding refers to the whole umbrella of processes we use to protect all children and to provide safe and effective care. This includes all procedures designed to prevent harm to a child. It can be difficult to accept or understand, but all children can be at risk of harm or abuse. Safeguarding legislation and government guidance says that safeguarding means that professionals have a duty to:

  • protect children from maltreatment
  • prevent the impairment of children’s health or development
  • ensure that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
  • take action to enable all children to have the best outcomes

WHAT IS 'CHILD PROTECTION'?

Child Protection is part of the safeguarding process, protecting specific individual children identified as suffering or likely to suffer significant harm. This includes the child protection procedures which detail how to respond to concerns about a child.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN IN PRACTICE?

The school has a legal obligation to report any concerns about a child if they feel that a child may be subject to neglect or physical, emotional or sexual abuse. This includes concerns about the child in the home and the wider environment. If we have such a concern, we will contact Children's Services at the local authority to ensure that concerns are dealt with in a manner which puts the well-being of the child as priority. We appreciate that parents and carers can find these events very worrying and upsetting. Whenever possible, we will discuss concerns with parents before seeking advice to safeguard a child; however, there are some circumstances when we are obliged to seek support from a professional trained to investigate safeguarding concerns.

TRAINING

All school staff have a responsibility to provide a safe environment in which children can learn. All staff receive safeguarding training and regular safeguarding updates in areas such as online safety and the Prevent duty. The Safeguarding Lead and Deputy Safeguarding Lead have additional training so that they can carry out their responsibilities effectively. The Safeguarding Leads give advice to staff and also liaise closely with other services such as children's social care.

Keeping Your Child Safe Online - E-Safety

The Internet is a wonderful place, full of new ideas and experiences, but we all know that it has it's own unique set of dangers, especially to children.

At Frogwell, children are always under supervision when they are using the internet, our staff have had e-safety training and our network has a number of e-safety measures permanently in place - this may not be the case at home!

This section of the website is all about making sure you, as parents and carers, have access to all the information, help and advice you need to help ensure that your children are safe on the internet at home.
