Term 2
Welcome back to school. I hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing and pleasurable break over half-term.
This term, we will be undertaking an exciting geographical enquiry into why people choose to live near volcanoes. This is always a fascinating unit as we cover the different layers that make up our planet, the impact that tectonic plates and their boundaries have and learn how to classify volcanoes; locating some of the most well-known on a world map.
In English, we will be starting off our learning by writing a persuasive advertisement for an alternative to plastic straws; The Stroodle. We will use a range of persuasive writing devices including: alliteration, humour, emotive language and rhetorical questions. Next, we will use Philip Pullman's rendition of the folk tale, Aladdin and the Enchanted Lamp, as inspiration for our own traditional narrative. The children will complete a character study of Aladdin, considering his complex and evolving nature.
For further information on curriculum coverage for Term 2, please see the attached Curriculum Map below.
P.E
P.E will be on Tuesday and Friday. On Tuesday, Lewis Class will use our new Drumba equipment to take part in an exciting, high-intensity workout session whilst learning and playing a custom-made drum. Drumba is accessible to all and focusses on developing co-ordination, fine motor skills and cross lateral brain development. On Friday, we will be working on our catching, passing and running skills with a mix of individual and team-based Tag Rugby games.
Please make sure you come to school in the correct P.E uniform.
You will need to wear:
- Plain black / navy shorts, plain white t-shirt or white t-shirt with school logo
- Daps for indoor PE
- Trainers for outdoor PE
- Plain black / navy joggers and a plain black / navy sweatshirt or ‘hoodie’ may be worn for cold weather outdoor PE in the winter.
- A blue school fleece with logo is also available
- Please remember to pack socks for those who wear tights with their normal school clothes.
Please do not wear different colours or clothes with other logos.
Home Learning
Home learning will be set on Google Classroom on a Friday and is due in on the following Wednesday.
It is important to encourage your child to complete home learning as it consolidates learning that is currently taking place in class. Home learning is designed to be an independent activity and children should be able to complete one activity from both English and maths (from three options of each), with minimal adult input or supervision. Getting into the routine of completing a small amount of home learning each week will support your child as they progress through their learning journey and into secondary education. Ideally, alongside home learning, children should also read at home. Little and often is the best approach to take; this may only be 5 minutes a day.
If you have concerns or queries, please do not hesitate to catch me after school or via the school office.
